Indiscutiblemente el corrido es el género endémico más popular del país, no solo por su sonido tan característico, ni por su existencia desde más de un siglo, si no por la manera tan fiel, cruda y veraz en la que son retratados hechos de diferentes índoles ocurridas en nuestro país, además de reconocer personalidades de forma heroica o por alguna hazaña y un sinfín de situaciones más que reflejan de viva manera las realidades de nuestro entorno mexicano.
A lo largo de los años, y como todo género musical, el concepto de este género se ha visto inmerso en un proceso cambiante, yéndose adaptando a las nuevas épocas y el concepto de la sociedad actual, cubriendo nuevas necesidades sociales.
Es por eso que decidí hacer esto, para analizar cada paso que el género ha tenido, y cómo éste se ha convertido de igual manera en una identidad cultural representativa, además de responder la pregunta de cuán fuerte ha sido el cambio dentro del género.
El origen y nacimiento del corrido durante la Revolución Mexicana. 1910 – 1930
El corrido nació del anonimato para dar a conocer lo que ocurría en la época del Porfiriato, criticar las razones sociales de los pobladores, así como alabar las hazañas de algunos personajes importantes para aquellos tiempos, vistos como opositores de aquel régimen, y se volvieron íconos del creciente descontento en torno al gobierno actual, un descontento que desembocaría en la Revolución Mexicana.
El primer corrido del que se tiene registro data de 1918, compuesto por Macario Romero. En aquel entonces, el corrido no era distribuido instrumentalizado, sino que se hacía escrito, en forma de volante, pues era más fácil compartirlo así, además de que su público meta eran las poblaciones más vulnerables y marginales. Poco tiempo después, se instrumentalizaría, llegando así el primer corrido musical de la historia. Pero remontémonos un poquito atrás para comprender el sonido de este género y por qué suena así. Los orígenes de este particular sonido vienen de Europa, más específicamente de los siglos VIII, XIX y X, conocidos en aquel entonces como juglares.
Los juglares eran artistas de entretenimiento de la Europa medieval; comprendían desde músicos, malabaristas, poetas y demás talentos cuya función era contar y narrar historias. Estos grupos de artistas se iban moviendo entre pueblo y pueblo, llevando un show a una población en su mayoría analfabeta, aunque también divertían a señores y vasallos. Mezclaban la música, la sátira, las gestas épicas y demás.
Es entonces donde encontramos las obvias y directas similitudes; los juglares narra batallas, noticias y glorifica a sus héroes y sus actos, al igual que el corrido como lo conocemos. Los más endémicos corridos de aquella lucha eran acerca de héroes de la Revolución como Zapata. Posterior al término del conflicto, los corridos dejarían su carácter de oposición social para convertirse en un transmisor de información ficticia y propagandística, dando a conocer los anteriores años del Porfiriato y las formas de vivir de esa época.
La masificación del género con base en el mariachi. 1930 – 1960
Con la llegada de Lázaro Cárdenas al poder, todo el país tuvo un cambio notable, una mejoría que no se veía en décadas, y fue éste mismo quien se interesó por esta corriente musical y decidió impulsarla a través del cine. En la década de 1950 nacería la conocida como «la época dorada del corrido», con intérpretes más que conocidos y queridos hoy en día: Pedro Infante, Javier Solis y José Alfredo Jimenez.
La importancia e innovación que estos tres exponentes le dieron al género fue clave para la masificación de los corridos, pues considerarían al mariachi en primer plano instrumental. Si bien, el estilo ya no era del todo revolucionario, las letras y el concepto siguió siendo de índole ranchera.
En la misma década de 1950, aparecería Paulino Vargas, con un proyecto que cambiaría para siempre el género: Los Broncos de Reynosa, acoplando el estilo del corrido a las nuevas generaciones, y esto es algo que ha mantenido al género vivo durante tanto tiempo: Su facilidad de adaptación. Esta agrupación sería la antecesora a lo que de allí en adelante sería el narco-corrido.
Hay una discusión aún actual de cuál fue el primer narco-corrido. Muchos afirman que los anteriormente mencionados, Los Broncos de Reynosa, lanzaron el primer narco-corrido en la historia: Lamberto Quintero. En discrepancia, Juan Carlos Ramírez-Pimienta, catedrático que ha dedicado gran parte de su vida a estudiar este fenómeno cultural, afirma en su libro «Cantar a los narcos: Voces y versos del narcotráfico» (2011) que el primer narco-corrido del que se tiene registro es El Pablote, escrito por José Rosales y grabado en 1931, y que curiosamente no fue en México, sino en Estados Unidos, más específicamente en El Paso, Texas.
La nueva generación variante de la época dorada. 1960 – 1990
La década de 1960 vería el final de los íconos más grandes del género ranchero. Este acontecimiento resultaría en un detonante para que el corrido tuviese un nuevo surgimiento. Con el punto de partida que Paulino Vargas ya había puesto sobre la mesa, comenzarían a aparecer varios grupos bajo el mismo concepto, como Los Cadetes de Linares en 1970. Este conjunto fue el responsable que el género norteño comenzara a ganar protagonismo en un mercado algo centralizado dentro del corrido y el mariachi, pero fusionando elementos del norteño con el ya conocido corrido.
Se unirían también a esta nueva camada dos nombres importantes para el desarrollo del género: Ramón Ayala y Los Tigres del Norte, quienes impondrían un sonido meramente particular a lo anteriormente sonado dentro del corrido. Pocos años después, más específicamente a finales de los 80’s, el género de banda comenzaba su despegue, pues Antonio Aguilar llegaba al pináculo de su carrera, a su vez que agrupaciones emblemáticas del género como La Banda El Recodo ingresaba a su primer vocalista.
A estas alturas, surgiría una joven promesa del corrido, que con una corta y fugaz carrera se ganaría el cariño de los medios y el público en general: Chalino Sánchez. Muchos lo consideraron precipitadamente «El Rey del Corrido» por su valentía al exponer sus composiciones a los rangos más altos del ambiente ilícito mexicano. Para entonces, el narco-corrido no había cambiado su fórmula desde su nacimiento décadas atrás.
El nuevo milenio y las nuevas corrientes. 1990 – 2010
La llegada del nuevo milenio trajo un ligero retroceso en el género, pues la aparición del duranguense y el género romántico de banda ganaría terreno relegando al corrido, haciendo que durante los primeros años de esta primera década de los 2000’s no tuviese grandes representantes. No fue hasta 2009 que el género recobraría fuerza; para esas fechas se hablaría por todos lados de un tal Movimiento Alterado, una fusión en la cual, aunque se conservaba la esencia del norteño, se implementaban ritmos más grotescos, reemplazando el bajo por una tuba, y con un argumento encasillado directamente en la violencia vivida a raíz del narcotráfico y el ámbito delictivo a nivel nacional, traída por la clara influencia que representaba el Cártel de Sinaloa en aquel entonces.
La llegada a la presidencia de Felipe Calderón dictó una guerra civil al declararle la guerra al narcotráfico en 2006, que desembocaría en hordas de homicidios, atentados y demás atrocidades que, más que infligir daño en las células y cárteles de la droga, hicieron fortalecerlos aún más. Esto se denota en la mayoría de canciones y álbumes estrenados durante el Movimiento Alterado.
A pesar del lenguaje vulgar y la crudeza con la que se relataban los hechos, el Movimiento Alterado fue muy escuchado y bien recibido en todo el territorio nacional y gran parte de la población mexicana en Estados Unidos, pero en más de una ocasión, dichos temas fueron censurados por los medios por lo explícito del contenido. Los exponentes más importantes del género serían El Komander como el máximo representante, además de Los Buitres de Sinaloa con líricas aún más grotescas de lo habitual, Larry Hernández y Colmillo Norteño.
El Movimiento Alterado tendría una gran popularidad entre las masas, pero no por mucho, pues por la ya mencionada censura que recibió, la corriente se vería apaciguada y limitada en muchas ocasiones. No fue hasta que en 2011 un joven implementaría un nuevo subgénero dentro de las ramas del corrido: El corrido progresivo. De la mano de Gerardo Ortiz, un desconocido en el ámbito que de la noche a la mañana ya era todo un referente, dio una nueva bocanada de aire al género, donde le seguirían el paso a este nuevo subgénero otros más como Régulo Caro y Alfredo Olivas. Esta tendencia no duraría mucho, quizá un par de años, por lo repetitivo de las canciones, donde los artistas no innovaban ni un poco en experimentar con el subgénero.
La música de cuerdas y el traspaso de fronteras. 2010 – 2021
Con la muerte de Ariel Camacho en 2015, líder de Los Plebes de Rancho, quienes eran poco conocidos para entonces, se impondría una nueva moda, dándole protagonismo al corrido de cuerdas, donde la simplicidad era una característica fundamental, pues se utilizaban pocos instrumentos: Bajo sexto y guitarra. Quién diría que la muerte de un artista significaría el nuevo paso para los corridos como los conocemos hoy en día, pues gracias a la popularidad del corrido de cuerdas, se dio entrada al sierreño, donde el argumento cambió un poco. Si bien, no se dejó de lado su ímpetu por el narcotráfico, algunas líricas eran dedicadas a la superación personal de los artistas, dándole un nuevo sentido argumental a las canciones.
Estados Unidos siempre ha sido el mercado más importante para la venta de narcóticos que se producen en nuestro país, y este fenómeno se vio reflejado en una nueva camada de artistas nacionalizados como estadounidenses. La conversión es simple: Los corridos mexicanos hablan de las hazañas y el ego de los narcos, de su estilo de vida y de su poderío como capos de la droga, mientras que los corridos gringos hablan del consumo de estas sustancias nocivas. T3R Elemento lanzaría The Green Trip (2018), siendo la obra clave de los ya conocidos como Corridos Verdes, una corriente cuyo argumento era directamente dirigido hacia la marihuana y sus efectos.
De aquí en adelante, más y más artistas del género surgirían en Estados Unidos, pues la fundación de Rancho Humilde marcaría un punto y aparte para el corrido gringo en español. Este sello discográfico se esmeró en crear a los nuevos exponentes del corrido, donde nacería la nueva corriente y la más popular actualmente: El Corrido Tumbado. Este nuevo estilo resulta una mezcla pluricultural, pues el sonido es endémico de México, pero lo estilístico es estadounidense, tomando elementos de la cultura urbana de las pandillas del sur de Estados Unidos. Indiscutiblemente el más importante artista del súbgenero es Natanael Cano, seguido de Junior H, Legado 7, Herencia de Patrones, Eslabón Armado, y Ovi, solo por mencionar algunos.
En los últimos meses, hemos visto mezclas raras pero acertadas entre el corrido y el trap, pero tiene su razón. El Corrido Tumbado americano tiene como argumento el desarrollo, crecimiento y superación personal, el típico «yo vengo de abajo y ahora soy exitoso» tan común en este género, y es este mismo argumento el que se emplea en el trap latino-americano, es por eso que ambos géneros están convergiendo en uno mismo, pues van encaminados hacia el mismo lugar.
El corrido se ha ganado un lugar importante en nuestra cultura como mexicanos, pues mantener vivo un género durante más de un siglo no es nada fácil. Mucho se ha satanizado al corrido por su forma grotesca y cruda de relatar los hechos que pasan en México de forma ilícita, pero este género resulta una realista proyección de nuestro país, además de una fiel representación de la evolución que hemos tenido como nación y como cultura colectiva. Pero ojo, dejemos en claro que como tal el corrido no evoluciona, solo cambia. Las modas son muy importantes en este género para demostrar lo que consumía el mexicano promedio en la época donde se originó el movimiento o corriente. Las cosas cambian, el mundo cambia, y el corrido ha sabido adaptarse a las necesidades sociales que le exige la evolución de sus oyentes.
La capacidad de adaptación del corrido es la responsable de su prevalencia durante más de cien años, y no solo permanencia, sino que también ha ido cambiado para satisfacer las necesidades sociales de la época donde se desarrolle, siendo este género musical el medio perfecto para estudiar y visualizar la evolución que hemos tenido como colectividad mexicana.
