14: ‘KG0516’, la analogía del vuelo influenciada por el art-pop de Karol G

Desde el año pasado, la colombiana Karol G demostró su poderío musical, uno que no solamente se encasillaba al reggaetón y los ritmos latinos endémicos, si no que también se adapta a nuevos y más ricos formatos musicales. Luego de tanto éxito mundial en sus palmares, la artista está más que lista para ser una artista pop de enorme calibre.

Su hambre competitiva, artística y de crecer en el ecosistema musical se muestran de sobremanera desde hace ya tiempo, pero no fue hasta su tercer y más reciente álbum, KG0516 (2021), que la colombiana mostró todo su potencial, tomando como rampa de lanzamiento sus populares canciones como ‘Tusa’ y ‘BICHOTA‘, que fungieron de maravilla para calar el terreno para lo que estaba por venir.

Dejando de lado lo cotidiano

Creo que muchos esperaríamos escuchar un tema en específico en las letras de Karol G, y es que su ruptura con Anuel AA resulta un fuerte argumento para abordar en un álbum del mismo concepto y sonido que el de su ex pareja. Sorpresiva y afortunadamente esta idea fue rápidamente descartada, sin embargo, hay ciertas indirectas en sus letras que son obviamente dirigidas a él, pero no son del todo protagónicas. La diferencia radica en la manera de decirlo, pues al abordar este tema en un reggaetón tan exquisito y bien producido por Ovy On The Drums se sale del molde típico del gremio reggaetonero de crear beef cada que se puede.

Acá lo que protagoniza a KG0516 (2021) es un fuerte sentimiento empoderado, feminista y de amor propio. Si bien, este recurso ya es explotado hasta el cansancio en otros géneros, acá resalta, pues tocar este tópico en una de las industrias más machistas y misóginas de la música le da un toque extra de sinceridad.

En la sonoridad del disco encontramos su punto fuerte: Las ramificaciones musicales. Siempre he considerado al reggaetón a un género ya base con el que comenzar a tocar, y a partir de este es de donde surgen las experimentaciones con más rasgos estilísticos de otros géneros. Hay muchísimos artistas que solamente se quedan en esta primera instancia, pero Karol G busca que KG0516 (2021) dé un paso más en la estética y sonoridad del álbum.

¿Cómo podemos justificar lo dicho en el párrafo anterior? Primero habría que escuchar todo el disco; a plena escuchada el álbum reluce en su propio universo y uno mismo se percata de que no es un álbum más de reggaetón, hay que dejar claro ese punto de una vez. Lo multifacético de la colombiana resuena fuerte por el evidente uso de géneros como el bossa nova, country, tocando hasta el corrido tumbado, y hasta re-versionar el sonido clásico del reggaetón de antaño.

El art-pop y los llamativos colores

Desde la portada se logra percibir un acercamiento, y hasta inspiración directa, del art-pop. Y no es poco, porque el arte de la carátula de KG0516 (2021) estuvo a cargo de David LaChepelle, actor importante para el art-pop que ha trabajado en la faceta visual de Elton John, Moby y Travis Scott.

Más que mostrarlo en la portada, este álbum está cargadísimo de colores fuertes e intensos que aúnan más a la experiencia cromática que ofrece el mismo trabajo, experimentando con matices diversas que llegan e influencian al plano musical. Este compromiso que ha tomado la colombiana para el uso de estas gamas cromáticas ayudan a resaltar su imagen y su música, donde notamos que el art-pop ha sido de gran inspiración para ella, pero exclusivamente en el apartado visual, siendo este un punto negativo, porque hubiese sido muy interesante escucharla fluir sobre beats de reggaetón o trap influenciados de esta rama del pop.

Sin embargo, ya hablamos de la experimentación de la colombiana en este disco, y este tema lo podemos abordar al llevar al imaginario el cómo es que Karol G llevará a los escenarios esta nueva etapa en su carrera. Se me ocurren visuales muy coloridos y llamativos, así como enormes figuras de plástico sobre la tarima. Todo podría pasar.

El concepto del vuelo

La portada de KG0516 (2021) muestra aviones volando sobre Karol, y el mismo nombre del trabajo es una analogía a cómo las aerolíneas nombran los vuelos comerciales. Entonces, tenemos claras lo que significan las dos primeras siglas, ¿pero esos números qué? Los números 0516 aluden y recuerdan a la fecha en que la colombiana firmó su primer contrato discográfico en 2006, 16 de mayo, siendo su «despegue en este vuelo».

Este concepto tomó forma porque la mayoría de canciones le surgieron a Karol G cuando estaba volando, yendo de un lugar a otro, haciendo que este álbum se concibiera casi completamente sobre las nubes. No solo se queda en lo conceptual del mismo disco, si no que también hace referencia al despegue que está teniendo la colombiana, uno que poco a poco la está alzando en el panorama musical mundial, y que no parece tener interés en bajarse de este avión, y ninguno de nosotros tiene ganas tampoco.

Al final del día, KG0516 (2021) es una atinada analogía del desarrollo artístico y maduración personal de Karol G, una analogía que no se limita en sonoridades, al llevar a la práctica una experimentación con demás sonidos que sorpresivamente quedan de maravilla con el reggaetón. Quién lo diría. Creo que es de resaltar que una mujer ostente este logro de implementar sonidos tan clásicos pero poco usados en el reggaetón, abriendo las puertas para que más mujeres dentro del gremio opten por introducirse acá.

Karol G ha estado en constante cambio, un cambio que reformará -y ya lo está haciendo- el catálogo femenino del reggaetón latino en una industria tan representada por hombres. Considero que KG0516 (2021) era necesario para que el género no se estancara como ya venía haciéndolo desde 2020, significando este disco un respiro fresco para el reggaetón.
